For those of you familiar with the SAW Gallery in downtown Ottawa, you will surely be accustomed to the vibrant exterior, and paintings plastered wall to wall. This week, Amir Zargara transformed the gallery into his own artistic vision as the newest season of ZARGARA clothing was launched.
Guests at the event were transported into Zargara’s world as the fourth season, dubbed ‘The Flower Rises’, made its debut. In a darkened room, attendees were presented with three stages of the line, love, life and death; each section building on the one before.
Taking a page from Kanye West himself, the line was daring, consisting of lots and lots of layering, mixing a variety of fabrics, and playing around with hem lengths. The models were bold, and stood motionless, allowing the clothes to do the talking. Each piece was worn in black, which presented well, and brought the feel of the show to near post-apocalyptic, which was new, exciting, and very venue appropriate.
The event not only drew attention to Zargara’s design vision, but to his artistic one as well. Incorporating strong instrumental tracks and images, the setting helped boost the feeling behind the whole line, capturing everyones attention in the process.
The event truly had a bit of something for everyone, as it played host to local musical talent both before, and after the fashion show. The audience was also silenced as thought provoking pieces of slam poetry were read leading up to the clothing reveal, which helped tie the whole show together.
