Confession: summer fashion is my least favourite kind of fashion.
There’s just something about layering in the autumn, winter and spring months that is so appealing to me. I know I can’t be alone in this. I get so uninspired when the humidex reaches 30 degrees or higher and my main concern then shifts from looking great to staying as sweat-free as humanly possible. This dilemma has made for some pretty boring outfit choices in the past but I’ve decided that summer 2016 will be different.
The easiest, and most cost efficient way to amplify an ensemble is to add a statement piece. This could mean an intricate necklace, a quirky hat, or a showstopping handbag – anything eye catching. Fast fashion retailers, like H&M and Forever 21, are packed with interesting and cheap options. Thrift and consignment shops are also home to some hidden treasures.
Below I’ve pictured some of my go-to statement pieces for summer. I mix and match the pieces with basic sundresses to achieve a comfortable, yet trendy, summer style.
