Rachelle Anne Roy, owner and head designer of Rachelle Anne Wear (RAW): a women’s clothing label that combines the functionality of urban street-wear with the luxuriousness of high fashion. Rachelle’s business began about a year after graduating from the Fashion Design program at George Brown College in Toronto, Ontario.
In September 2016, she had the great opportunity to go to Vancouver Fashion Week to showcase her premier collection, which received great media exposure!
“I started drafting, gathering fabrics, and making samples of the designs that I had envisioned while I was in school.”
Rachelle called her first collection for SS17 “FIRE” as it is inspired by the primal and fiery essence of the Lion, RAW’s signature symbol. Fire, which she used to accent her pieces with open burn marks, also represents the stress and difficulty she endured during the process of designing the garments and her brand. The upcoming designer wanted her collection to convey that fire as it is something that can consume you, but, if kept under control and harnessed properly, can be a creative and beautiful force. Keeping the open flames under control while accenting the pieces she had worked on for so long, required the same dedication, focus, and perseverance as keeping her stress under control. At the end, the result was the same: the creation of something beautiful of which she was really proud.
