The mysterious dinner party, Le Diner en Blanc (The Dinner in White), will take place in Ottawa August 11, 2016. This glamorous event originated in Paris when François Pasquier hosted an outdoor dinner for a group of his friends, requesting that all of his guests dress in white clothing. Le Diner en Blanc has since become a worldwide event, attracting thousands and thousands of attendees and held in more than 50 cities in various countries across the globe.
While the city where the party will be held is made known, the exact location is held secret until the last possible minute. Thus, creating an energizing air of excitement and mystery. This phenomenon brings people together, armed with their own tables and chairs, to enjoy the food and to marvel at the wonder of the city around them. Guests are encouraged to bring their own gourmet food to this “chic picnic”, however catered beverages and meals can also be ordered in advance. In order to become one of the privileged participants, guests must register online for the waiting list; the chosen ones will then receive the secret location.
Public transportation is organized and their Table Leader escorts guests to the dinner. Attendance is mandatory and the dress code is strictly white, no colours or off-white shades are permitted. In the case of poor weather conditions the event will still occur and it is suggested that participants bring a white or transparent umbrella or raincoat. Despite the restrictive rules surrounding Diner en Blanc, the occasion is always full of high and festive spirits. This is a very special evening and all guests are well aware of that fact.
Diner en Blanc pays homage to the elegance of French High Society and creates a magical evening that will last in the memories of its participants. Once the dinner is over there is no trace of the event left behind. Participants part ways and return to their daily lives, until the next Diner en Blanc.
