A rocket ready for launch, three thousand front row seats and ultramodern designs -The out of this world work by Karl Lagerfeld brought fashion into space in his outstanding Chanel Fall/Winter 2017 ready to wear collection .
In the Grand Palais of Paris, featuring one of his most creative centerpieces yet, an almost life size space rocket, nearly brought the world into space accompanied with the futuristic designs of Lagerfeld.
As many would assume, Lagerfeld is always looking for ways to maintain Mademoiselle Chanel’s vision while accompanying it with his cutting edge creativity.
For the show, the three thousand seats were all front row, Lagerfeld explained “Everyone always wants to have a front row seat. And very often they complain that they can’t see the detail. I wanted everyone to be able to see the clothes, and the work that goes into them.”. Undoubtedly, this tactic paid off as showgoers such as Pharrell Williams, Cara Delevingne and Lily-Rose Depp were able to be up close and personal with this years collection featuring metallic accents, twinkling silver boots, glamorous tweed suits and electric shades of blue and purple which surely would have left Mademoiselle Chanel breathless herself. As models made their way down the intricately designed runway, we felt as if we were watching the constellations themselves were passing before our eyes.
Concluding his show, a ten second countdown led to an interstellar blast off. With Elton John’s Rocket Man playing in the background, the rocket began to ommit smoke and faux sparks, leaving some to believe that the rocket may even break through the glass ceiling of the Grand Palais. Although the rocket did only make it up several meters and the ceiling was left fully intact, this monumental show certainly brought the world to a galaxy far-far away with Lagerfeld’s out of this world creativity, in other words, mission accomplished.
