The moment we’ve all been waiting for has finally arrived! On August 11, 2016 at 11:00am the new wing of the Rideau Centre opened to the public. The expansion, the result of three years of renovations and cost $360 million spans three stories and boasts a plethora of new stores. A hallway branching off next to PINK on the second floor leads to the newly opened Massimo Dutti, Steve Madden, and Anthroplogie, to name a few. The first floor is home to H&M and the relocated Zara, both of which span two floors. Squish, an artisanal candy store filled with vibrate gummy treats can also be found on the first floor. On the highest floor are the recently moved Lululemon, Indochino, and Harry Rosen. Another notable addition to the Rideau Centre is Simons. The Quebec based department store has something to offer everyone with affordable fashion, high-end labels and home décor.

On the eve of the grand opening, the curtains concealing the expansion were parted for media and VIP guests. If the immaculately dressed mannequins were not enough to entice patrons to make a purchase, then the endlessly flowing complimentary drinks certainly did. The cotton candy and a donut bar satisfied everyone’s sweet tooth. Guests shopped and socialized, while dining on intricate appetizers and listening to speeches commemorating the opening.

The addition of this new wing marks a turn towards a bright future for the CF Rideau Centre. Although it has often been negatively compared to the Bayshore Shopping Centre in Nepean, the Rideau Centre is now a must-see fashion destination for all in Ottawa and the surrounding areas.
