Imaan Hammam dances around to a Nick Jonas song, mouthing the words as she weaves back and forth. The 19-year-old model looks at home wrapped in heather gray Hanes over a flowing Vetements dress, with her famous curls peeking out from beneath the hood.
“I wear a lot of hoodies,” says Hammam, whose scene-stealing, gravity-defying curls are hard to contain under a traditional winter hat. “It’s so chill, and really nice for leaving my hair natural and big.” Between takes, hairstylist Braydon Nelson spritzes R+Co’s dry shampoo and Outer Space hairspray to pump up Hammam’s natural volume, then leaves it loose. “When you wear a hoodie, you want to make sure you have pieces popping out to define your face, almost like contouring,” he explains. It’s a no-fuss style that Hammam has favored since she was 14—“I was like, I should just free the hair!”—maintained through a simple wash-and-go routine, with a little help from Miss Jessie’s curl cream, loads of argan oil, and homemade hair masks pulled from the pantry (think avocados, bananas, honey, eggs). “I do a lot of weird mixes once a month to give a nice shine,” she says.
For those lacking Hammam’s supernatural texture, there’s hope: She confesses that her other preferred hoodie hairstyle is actually a pair of tight French plaits. “They’re so comfortable, and you can do it in two seconds,” she says—next-level curls not required.
